FAQ

Your travel money questions answered!

Do you have questions about ordering travel money? – Find out the answers to some of the most common questions here.

How much is ‘enough’ travel money?

On the one hand, you don’t want to run out of money while on holiday and must withdraw more; but on the other hand, you don’t want to have lots of travel money left over that you must exchange back.

A little prep beforehand can help to ensure you don’t take too much (or too little) travel money with you on holiday. Think about the activities you’ll be doing when away: if your days will be spending on the beach, then you only need money for evenings. Alternatively, if you’re going on a city break and want to visit museums and go shopping, you’ll need to take more travel money.

Is there a best time to get travel money?

Foreign exchange rates fluctuate daily, but did you know they also differ depending on where you buy your currency? If you’re looking to get as much travel money as possible, we would recommend you don’t change your currency at the airport or any other ports.

Purchasing your travel money in advance will help you get a better deal. We offer different currencies at 0% commission, so it’s worth checking out our rates!

What should I do if I’m abroad without travel money?

If you’ve accidentally overspent and don’t have any foreign exchange left, don’t worry – there are plenty of options.

Be aware that if you choose to use your debit or credit card abroad, you will incur a charge each time.

While ATM machines also charge you to withdraw money, it can work out cheaper to withdraw a large amount of money in one go, as opposed to making multiple transactions on a card.

Should I use my bank card abroad?

Sometimes it can seem convenient to simply pay for your purchases by card when you’re abroad, as opposed to changing your travel money beforehand. However, card charges and fees can soon add up, meaning you’re getting a lot less for your money.

Purchasing your travel money before you go on holiday will enable you to get a better deal.
